President Donald Trump has nominated an Indiana agbiosciences executive to serve as the U.S. Department of Agriculture under secretary of agriculture for research, education and economics. Scott Hutchins is the global leader of integrated field sciences for Corteva Agriscience, which has a Global Business Center at the former Dow Agrosciences campus in Indianapolis.

Hutchins is also an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska and previously served as president of the Entomological Society of America. In early July, Trump also nominated Leesburg-based Tom Farms LLC Chief Executive Officer Kip Tom for an agricultural-focused position: U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture at the Department of State.
