News Release
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – MED Institute (MED) is a Cook Group company that will now offer its services to external medical device companies. For the past 32 years, MED has served as an in-house contract research firm for its sister Cook companies, including Cook Medical. MED provides product development, pre-clinical and clinical testing, and regulatory approval services for their medical devices.
MED Institute was founded in 1983 to help bridge the gap between academic research and the development, manufacture, regulatory approval and marketing of medical devices. MED has extensive knowledge of and expertise in regulatory strategy, regulatory science, and pre-clinical and clinical testing. MED is ISO17025 accredited to perform more than 150 pre-clinical tests, from simple stress-strain testing to sophisticated tests of the interaction between magnetic resonance imaging, devices and tissue.
With its extensive experience with regulatory agencies around the world, MED is well-positioned to help clients develop and carry out comprehensive strategies to navigate complex regulatory processes and get devices approved.
As a Cook company, MED's relationships with other medical device companies are important when it comes to doing what is best for patients.
“We take our lead from Bill Cook,” said Matt Waninger, president of MED Institute. “Bill's prime directive to us was, 'Focus on the patient first.' He wanted Cook companies to make the best possible medical devices, but he knew we could not do it all. We recognized that if we could help another company get a good medical device approved, then we should, regardless of whether it’s a Cook product or not. Because that's what’s good for patients.”
