Contract Awarded For ‘Northern Connector’ Project

The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded a contract for a major highway project in Goshen. The nearly $19 million "Northern Connector" project will be performed by South Bend-based Rieth-Riley Construction.
The project will realign U.S. 33 through the city of Goshen. The highway will be rerouted around the downtown historic district, including bridges over the railroad tracks, Lincoln Avenue and Cottage Avenue. Rieth-Riley will also widen U.S. 33 from State Road 15 to the Elkhart River.
INDOT says drivers will continue to use the existing roadway until the new sections of U.S. 33 are open to traffic. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.
