The hospital is working with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to identify and fix any environmental issues that may exist. Reid Hospital relocated to its current location in 2008.
CEO Craig Kinyon says "we are eager to learn more based on these findings so that we can take any steps necessary for which we hold any responsibility based on our years on that site." He adds officials have made it clear they will deal with any ground contamination concerns that could be traced back to the hospital. “We and those who came before us at Reid were always good stewards of that property on behalf of the community, including up to and even after we moved out."
A work plan was submitted to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management last week by Environmental Resources Management. The purpose is to determine if chemicals found at the site were naturally occurring and also learn more about ground water flow. You can read more about the results by clicking here.
In 2006, the property was sold to Whitewater Living Center LLC, which offloaded it two years later when redevelopment plans that included residential, retail, restaurant and office uses fell through. Rose City Development bought it in 2008. The company became Spring Grove Development LLC in 2009, which abandoned the property.
Reid continues to work with IDEM and believes it was always in compliance with environmental regulations when it owned the property.
