Work Begins on Downtown Evansville Hotel

Work Begins on Downtown Evansville Hotel

Officials will Friday break ground on an $18 million hotel in downtown Evansville. Plans for the 139-room Hyatt Place Hotel were announced in October 2016, at which time Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said the project would create new jobs and generate new property taxes for the city.

Construction on the hotel is expected to take about a year. Our partners at WEHT-TV in Evansville report it will be located on the southeast corner of Second and Chestnut streets and the hotel parking lot will be located on the site of the former Scottish Rite Cathedral, which was demolished last spring.

The project had been delayed due to issues with utilities as well as winter weather. Kinship Hospitality is developing the project, which is being funded entirely through private sector investment.
