A Carmel-based nonprofit focusing on spinal cord injury research and rehabilitation has a new leader.
Conquer Paralysis Now, founded by former IndyCar driver Sam Schmidt, has appointed Britt Sutton as its new CEO, the organization announced Monday.
The nonprofit said Sutton brings nearly a decade of experience in health care law, disability policy and nonprofit management to her new role. She most recently served as president and CEO of ArtMix Inc., an Indianapolis organization that supports people with disabilities through art.
Conquer Paralysis Now was founded in 2000 by Schmidt, who suffered a career-ending spinal cord injury in an IndyCar race that left him a quadriplegic.
The nonprofit relocated its headquarters to Carmel last year after renovating Five Seasons Family Sports Club facility and transforming it into a Driven NeuroRecovery Center, which offers outpatient services addressing more than 30 neurological conditions.
As CEO, Conquer Paralysis Now said Sutton will lead the organization’s national expansion, increase access to recovery services, and spearhead initiatives that amplify its voice as a leader in the spinal cord injury community.
“Britt is a visionary leader whose track record speaks for itself,” Schmidt said in a news release. “Her combination of compassion, expertise, and bold thinking will help accelerate our mission—both to improve lives today through Driven NeuroRecovery Centers and to push forward groundbreaking research in hope of a cure.”
During her four-year tenure at ArtMix, Sutton restructured operations, tripled the nonprofit’s organizational budget, and quadrupled revenue, according to the release.
“This organization’s commitment to empowering individuals through both innovative research and real-time recovery solutions aligns deeply with my passion for equity, access, and transformation,” Sutton said. “I look forward to building on the legacy of founder Sam Schmidt and helping CPN reach even greater heights.”
