Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded a $500,000 grant to nonprofit The Mind Trust to support its Community Learning Sites initiative.
The sites are small hubs, located at more than two dozen sites across Indianapolis, that provide eLearning support and supervision at no cost to Indianapolis families with children in grades K-12.
The Mind Trust says the funding will be used to expand the number of locations and extend site operations beyond January 15.
The organization launched the program last fall as Indianapolis schools remained close because of the pandemic.
Marion County Public Health Department last week announced schools may return to in-person learning on January 4, but schools have the option to continue with full-time eLearning.
Indianapolis Public Schools has announced the district does not anticipate returning to in-person learning on January 4.
There are currently 26 Community Learning Site locations across Indianapolis with the capacity to serve more than 880 students
