The Community Foundation of Elkhart County says the generosity of the community led to a successful fiscal year. The organization says donors contributed more than $26 million to the various funds it manages.
Because of the donations, the organization says it was able to award more than $18 million in grants during the fiscal year, which ended June 30, including $2 million in scholarships.
"Generosity is truly the heartbeat of this community," said Pete McCown, president of the foundation. "The Community Foundation of Elkhart County simply seeks to help connect generous people with community causes. That is our primary role."
The foundation says the fiscal year also led to an annual rate of return on investments of nearly 13.5 percent, increasing the organization’s total assets under management to $272 million, up from $232 million the previous year.
"We are fortunate to live and work in Elkhart County," said Dzung Nguyen, foundation board chair. "We are fortunate to have a Community Foundation that can make our communities stronger and the lives of its residents better."
