Frontier Communications Corp. (Nasdaq: FTR) is planning to let go of 54 employees in Carmel. In a notice to the state, the company says recently completed automation systems led to the decision. Frontier expects the collections center layoffs to be permanent.

Most of the cuts involves consultant positions.

The employees are associated the company's affiliates, Frontier North Inc. and Citizens Telecom Services Co. LLC.

Frontier currently employs nearly 120 in Carmel.
