The Bicentennial Visioning Report was completed with input from more than 150 thought leaders throughout Indiana.
The recommendations were collected from more than a dozen visioning sessions that covered eleven broad-reaching subject areas of life in the state. The process was designed to draw out "big ideas" to serve as a catalyst for future public and private sector policies.
The project was directed by former lieutenant governor and current Ivy Tech Community College President Sue Ellspermann. "Each session was a lively and productive discussion of the subject area with as many as 100 ideas emerging from this intense interaction," she said.
The commission says Indianapolis-based think tank The Sagamore Institute has plans to advance the concepts in the report through its Third Century Project. Chief Executive Officer Jay Hein says "we at Sagamore are extremely impressed with the work of the Bicentennial Visioning Project and believe that the report must not remain just another book on the shelf. As an element of our emphasis on citizenship, we see this report as a citizen agenda for the future of Indiana and are eager to promote these ‘big ideas’ through our programming in the months and years ahead.”

The report was drafted by editor and project manager Norm Heikens with research from the Indiana University Public Policy Institute and funding from Old National Bank.
