A proposed $22 million sports village and hotel in Greenwood is moving forward. The city's redevelopment commission approved the plan Tuesday, which could create more than 100 permanent and 300 construction jobs. The commission also approved approximately $2 million in area infrastructure improvements.
Florida-based GoodSports Enterprises Global LLC expects to break ground this fall and open next year.
The development will go where a Cabela's Inc. (NYSE: CAB) store and water park was set to be built before the company pulled out about five years ago. Cabela's recently announced its plans to open a second location in the state in Noblesville sometime in 2015.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – GoodSports Enterprises Global continues to move forward with Greenwood, IN as a site for a Fall 2014 ground breaking. The proposed site would be located on the southeast corner of County Line Road and I-65. Once built the village would be comprised of an 85,000 square foot state-of-the-art fieldhouse with an adjacent 124-room athlete-minded hotel, known as the “GoodSports Hotel.”
The company is building 25 GoodSports Villages across the country over the next four years with the first six being constructed in 2014. Greenwood would be the fourth village to be named following villages in Huber Heights, OH, Wichita, KS, and Chesterfield, MO.
“Selecting the right location is key to our success. Greenwood not only meets our
expectations, it creates synergies with our other villages currently in development,”
remarked Jerald Good, President and CEO of GoodSports Enterprises Global.
GoodSports designed the village specifically for athletes. The fieldhouse will cater to
many sports but will mainly focus on basketball, volleyball, fitness and sports medicine.
The adjacent “GoodSports Hotel” will accommodate fitness oriented corporate travelers
during the week and event participants during the weekend. Every aspect of the village
has been chosen to celebrate the active lifestyle of local and traveling athletes; no other
brand has been so dedicated in its offerings.
The GoodSports Village in Greenwood, IN is currently going through a period of due
diligence. If finalized, the Village will begin construction in the fall with grand opening
following in 2015.
