A proposed $12 million mixed-use development in Allen County has cleared a hurdle. The Journal Gazette reports the Fort Wayne Plan Commission has granted Yellow Retirement Communities approval to build a 137-unit senior rental community and hotel. The company says the project would eventually create 50 jobs.

Plans also call for a restaurant that would connect to the hotel and would have walkway access by residents of the senior housing.

Yellow Retirement Owner J.R. Parent says ground could be broken on the project in about 18 months.

During a meeting Wednesday, the commission also gave the company approval on a different $2.5 million senior facility in Fort Wayne.
