Comlux is expanding its aircraft retro-fitting center in Indianapolis. The company says it is launching a six-month project to increase the size of a hangar near Indianapolis International Airport. Comlux says it expects to eventually add nearly 180 workers at the operation. It currently employs more than 320. October 22, 2013
Comlux The Aviation Group is pleased to announce that Comlux America, its completion and maintenance center based in Indianapolis USA, is expanding its work scope to include wide body VIP aircraft (Airbus ACJ330-ACJ340-ACJ380 and Boeing 767BBJ-777BBJ-747BBJ)
It has only been four years since Comlux received the approval from both manufacturers as an authorized completion facility, and to date the focus has been solely on narrow body aircraft. Comlux has already completed several aircraft completions including ACJ319, ACJ320, BBJ, BBJ3, B757 and soon an ACJ321, demonstrating an ability to deliver on time the highest quality interiors to its VIP customers.
Plans are in place to immediately launch an extension to the existing state of the art facility which was inaugurated in 2012, upon signature of a VIP wide body completion. The extension of the hangar should take six months to complete. The expansion will increase the total size from 128,000 sq ft to 157,000 sq ft. The new facility will be able to accommodate in total one wide body aircraft plus up to six narrow bodies at the same time.
“When I see the quality of the work accomplished in the past few years and the strong motivation of our teams, I have no doubt that Comlux America is ready for this move into the wide body VIP market. There is huge potential not only to catch green completions but also second hand aircraft refurbishments and maintenance.” says Richard Gaona, President of Comlux Group.
In parallel to its widebody expansion, Comlux America is pleased to announce the appointment of Boyd Hunsaker as Director of Sales. Boyd Hunsaker, 44 years old, is coming from the major refurbishments and maintenance side of business. He has worked many production management roles including 7 years as Sales Director, where he signed multiple jobs on both narrow and wide body VIP aircraft.
David Edinger, CEO Comlux America adds “With our decision to expand to the wide body market, we will grow the team to about 500 employees, starting with the reinforcement of our Sales department. With Boyd, we benefit from 20 years of experience in the field of VIP aircraft completions, refurbs and maintenance. I appreciate the great value he is bringing to our Comlux team.”

Comlux Aviation Services has successfully delivered an ACJ319, the Head of State of Malaysia aircraft operated by Jet premier One. Since the arrival of the aircraft in June 2013, the dedicated engineers, technicians and craftsmen of Comlux have performed the maintenance tasks required for C4 and the 6-year checks and have reworked major parts of the VIP cabin to comply with an Airworthiness Directive by EASA. A new external painting has also been performed, featuring now the new emblem of the Malaysian Government.
Captain Norudin Abd. Majid, CEO Jet Premier One, and his team along with Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia monitored carefully the process in Indianapolis, experiencing a successful flight test program before final handover and smooth return back to Kuala Lumpur.
“The aircraft is really impeccable” He says. ”I am particularly pleased with the upholstery and the finish on the wood work accomplished by Comlux craftsmen in the VIP cabin. Despite challenges faced due to the complexity of the cabin rework, the overall project went extremely smooth and the aircraft was delivered on time reflecting Comlux spirit and commitment”.
David Edinger, President and CEO of Comlux Aviation Services, says: “The teams have worked hard to see this project through and we are very proud of our achievements. We have built a solid relationship with Jet Premier One and we are honored that the Government of Malaysia is trusting the safety and comfort of its passengers to Comlux.”
