Columbus Regional Health closing two units, eliminating 50 jobs

Columbus Regional Health is planning to close its Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit and outpatient CRH Orthopedics and Sports Medicine practice, the health system said Monday.
According to a notice filed with the state, the move will result in the layoffs of 50 workers.
In a statement to Inside INdiana Business, CRH cited “unprecedented challenges and financial hardships” being faced by health systems nationwide such as rising supply costs and federal and state funding cuts.
Additionally, the health system said beginning Aug. 31, it will no longer provide the athletic trainer program for Indiana University Columbus. It will also end its program for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. and Flatrock-Haw Creek School Corp. on Sept. 30.
In its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, CRH said the layoffs went into effect on June 24.
“The organization is actively supporting those inpatient and practice workforce members affected in considering alternative employment options within CRH when and where possible,” CRH said in its statement. “We are also committed to working with our partners in the school corporations with the goal of providing a smooth transition for the athletic trainer program.”
CRH said the changes associated with the closures will take place over the coming months.
