Colts set to hold private memorial service for late owner Jim Irsay

The Indianapolis Colts and the Irsay family plan to hold a private memorial service next week for late team owner Jim Irsay, who died May 21.
The service, which will be closed to the public, is scheduled for Monday at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Plans for a public tribute have not been finalized and will be shared at a later date, the Colts said Wednesday in a news release.
Irsay died “peacefully” from undisclosed causes surrounded by family members, including daughters Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson. Each of the women has an ownership stake in the team, and all have served as vice chairs since 2010, responsible for overseeing various parts of the Colts operation.
The Colts said Tuesday that the team’s uniforms this season will sport a black patch with Irsay’s initials and signature to honor their owner, who joined the team in 1982 and later inherited the team from his father in 1997.
Specific details of Irsay’s succession have not been made public, although it is generally expected that Irsay-Gordon will take the role of controlling owner.
