The Allen County Council has granted preliminary approval for a $16 million expansion of the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Expo Hall. The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne reports construction could begin as early as next year. The approval involves a 20-year bonding plan to fund the project.

The publication reports the proposal still requires approval from the state budget agency and the Fort Wayne City Council.

The facility is part of a professional sports, convention and development area, which is designated by the state, and allows taxes from within the area to be used for projects.

Plans call for $1.3 million of these dollars to be paid into the project annually from 2015 through 2035.
