Civil engineering firm expanding in southern Indiana

A civil engineering and land surveying firm in southern Indiana is looking to grow its operations in the region.
Copperwaite Design Group Inc. plans to invest more than $4 million to establish an office in New Albany, according to One Southern Indiana, the economic development organization and chamber of commerce for Clark and Floyd counties.
Copperwaite is the parent of Paul Primavera & Associates in Corydon and Blankenbeker & Associates in Jeffersonville.
The company’s investment will cover the purchase of a building at 1000 Bell Lane in New Albany, as well as renovations and new machinery and equipment, 1si said in a news release.
“This expansion marks an exciting chapter for our team,” President Jason Copperwaite said in the release. “Investing in our physical footprint and growing workforce, we’re building upon decades of experience to meet the needs of a thriving region. We’re proud to continue serving communities across Southern Indiana and we look forward to creating new opportunities in the years ahead.”
Copperwaite Design Group plans to add 12 jobs in addition to the 21 employees the company currently has. 1si said the jobs will come with salaries above the county’s average wage.
“This investment strengthens New Albany’s position as a hub for high-skill, high-wage careers in engineering and design, and further reinforces the city’s reputation as a great place to live, work, and build for the future,” New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan said in the release.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is offering Copperwaite up to $100,000 in conditional tax credits for the expansion, which the company will not be eligible to claim until Hoosier workers are hired for the new jobs.
