Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the agreement aims to secure hiring priority for Gary residents and contracts for minority-owned businesses, as required by local ordinances.
The project requires about 1,000 construction workers for it’s slated completion date of December 31. The city has partnered with organizations such as Indiana Plan, the Northwest Indiana Building Trades Council and the Construction Advancement Foundation, which met this week to met to begin identifying, developing and engaging workers who live in Gary and get them on the job site, according to the publication.
Spectacle representatives say the company is “absolutely, fully invested in the city of Gary” and will have a strong focus on hiring local workers and union labor for the upcoming construction jobs.
“To me, the casino is more than just economic development, it’s an opportunity for, and an example of, industry, government and the unions coming together to re-imagine Gary,” Gary Mayor Jerome Prince said.
