The deals call for the city to pay Red Bird Properties $1.3 million and Cambray and Associates $850,000.
The properties represent part of the area slated to be the first phase of the Riverfront Development. On Tuesday, Parks & Recreation Director Al Moll and Deputy Director of Riverfront Development Mark Becker are set to meet with the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority to request nearly $5.3 million in Regional Cities funds for the initial phase.
Moll says "the settlements of these property acquisitions was vital as we approach next week’s request for Regional Cities funding. It was important to keep the project moving forward for many reasons – for construction to stay on schedule, to be able to tell potential funders that we had possession of the properties, and to limit non-construction expenditures."
The properties have been involved in court actions involving the city taking it over through eminent domain measures. When signed, the parties say pending lawsuits will be dropped.
The work involves public spaces on the south and north sides of the St. Marys River between Harrison Street and the Wells Street Bridge.
