News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Citizens Energy Group has opened its new Harbour Ground Water Treatment Plant near Morse Reservoir to serve growing water demand in Hamilton County. Citizens is hosting an open house at the plant today to allow neighbors and other community residents an opportunity to see how the plant functions.

The new $15 million plant is able to supply an additional 6 million gallons per day of water supply capacity to the growing residential and commercial markets in Hamilton County.

“The addition of our new Harbour Ground Water Treatment Plant provides significant benefits to our water system because it is located near high demand areas, reduces stress on our water distribution system and lowers energy and pump costs. The construction of this plant is part of our ongoing commitment to a sustainable long-term water supply for the people of Central Indiana,” said Jeff Willman, Vice President, Water Operations for Citizens.

The Harbour Project also included construction of a new transmission main under Cicero Creek to connect the east and west portions of the Harbour Well Field providing supply to the plant. In addition, the project included rehabilitation of six existing ground water wells. Two additional wells will be added in 2015 to further ensure adequate water supply for the plant.

Citizens has invested more than $156 million in the water system since acquiring it in 2011. Improvements include well field expansions for new source water; water main replacements to reduce costly main breaks and improve system flow; a comprehensive fire hydrant testing and maintenance program; and new ultraviolet disinfection systems at treatment plants to ensure safe drinking water.

“While much work remains, we are excited about the progress we have made over the past four years toward improving and modernizing our water system, which is critical to maintaining quality of life and economic development in Central Indiana,” said Willman.
