A national publication is highlighting a pair of Indiana New Year's Eve celebrations. USA TODAY's list of “Unusual Drops Around The USA” features events in Indianapolis and Vincennes. For the first time, Downtown Indianapolis will drop an Indy Car to countdown to Midnight.

In Vincennes, the city is poised for its seventh annual Watermelon Drop, which features a 500-pound illuminated replica watermelon.

VINCENNES, Ind. – RING IN THE NEW YEAR by celebrating the 7th Annual “Watermelon Drop” held in downtown Vincennes! Beginning at 9:00pm spectators are invited to gather at the Riverfront Pavilion to enjoy music, food and a beer/wine garden. At the stroke of midnight the 18-foot, 500-pound watermelon will rise in the sky and drop fifteen watermelons to mark the year 2015 while fireworks simultaneously mark the event.

Vincennes and Knox County are well-known for its multi-million dollar melon crops shipped throughout the nation.
