Chrysler Group LLC will dedicate its global production facility for a nine-speed automatic transmission this afternoon in Tipton. The automaker has pumped more than $160 million into the plant since acquiring the building last year. Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne will attend the ceremony. The automaker has put together a video showing the activity at the plant, which currently employs around 200. Chrysler says the operation should have around 850 workers at the end of the next year.

There are plans for the transmissions to be used in Fiat plants in Turkey, Italy, Brazil and China. They are currently in the Jeep Cherokee and Chrysler 200.

Marchionne was also scheduled to speak this morning during the Indiana University Kokomo commencement ceremonies.Source: Inside INdiana Business, Chrysler Group LLC, IU Kokomo
