News Release

The Kokomo Family YMCA is $500,000 closer to the multimillion-dollar construction of a new downtown campus after a generous donation from the Chrysler Group LLC, the YMCA announced today.

The Chrysler Group LLC made the half-a-million dollar gift to the YMCA's Beyond the Bricks fundraising campaign, confirmed YMCA Executive Director Dave Dubois.

“I am extremely pleased that Chrysler shares the YMCA's commitment to our community by making this generous gift,” said Dave Dubois. “This donation helps advance downtown Kokomo's largest redevelopment project, and we are confident it will have a significant impact.”

The Kokomo Family YMCA plans to build a new 73,000-square-foot facility, as part of a major downtown redevelopment plan. Additionally, the City of Kokomo plans to build a four-story parking garage on a city-owned lot across the street from the proposed YMCA campus.

“Chrysler's endorsement of the YMCA project further demonstrates their commitment to the redevelopment of Kokomo into an even greater city,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “I am confident this major gift will help ensure that the new YMCA will be the kind of place our residents have demanded.”

August 15, 2013, Kokomo, Ind. – Chrysler Group LLC today announced a donation of $500,000 to support the Kokomo Family YMCA's planned new facility. The new 73,000-square-foot building, to be located in downtown Kokomo, will offer area residents more amenities than the current YMCA including a health and wellness center, double gymnasium, an indoor running track and a lap pool.

“Chrysler Group is pleased to help play a role in promoting health and wellness for children and their families in Kokomo and Howard County,” Brian Harlow, Vice President and Head of Powertrain Manufacturing – Chrysler Group LLC said. “Today’s announcement also is part of Chrysler’s commitment to assist the City of Kokomo with its ongoing efforts to enhance the city through revitalization of the downtown community.”
