In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the retailer says Samuel Johnson is leaving to pursue other opportunities and will stay on the job through April 15.
Johnson has been with the company since 2010 and was promoted to the position seven months ago. He previously served as senior vice president of stores. Prior to joining hhgregg, he held several upper-management positions with Sears Holding Corp.
The announcement comes at a time of financial turmoil at the company. Its recent, high-profile struggles include filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, announcing the closing of 88 locations throughout the country, and detailing a potential contract date for selling off assets at its 132 remaining stores. The company said early last month it had identified a buyer, but that deal was called off a week later.
