A Terre Haute native is looking to bring jobs back to his hometown. Our partners at WTHI-TV report A.J. Patton, the founder and chief executive officer of Chicago-based 548 Capital, is looking to set up operations in the Vigo County city and potentially create dozens of jobs.
548 Capital develops clean energy-powered affordable housing in the Chicago area. Patton, a graduate of Indiana State University, says he wants to bring the company’s success to Terre Haute.
“My goal here is to bring that job training program to Terre Haute,” Patton told WTHI. “We want to skill a new workforce, and then tie that to projects both with the city, universities here, the School Corporation, and meet with all the different officials to see if there’s a true interest in job creation that’s tied to sustainable energy.”
Patton says he recently met with Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett, the presidents of local universities, the Small Business Administration and other local leaders to gauge the interest of bringing 548 Capital to the city.
“It’s about bringing jobs to Terre Haute,” Patton said. “That’s the number one thing. That’s our hope in a partnership that we find more ways to bring creative jobs here. That’s the best thing to rebuild a community is for it to rebuild itself.”
Patton said the effort is in the early stages and did not specify a timeline for potentially setting up shop in Terre Haute.
