Chateau Thomas Winery Owner Dies

The owner and president of Chateau Thomas Winery in Plainfield has died. Charles Thomas, a longtime OB-GYN who practiced for more than 30 years, founded the winery in 1984 along with his wife, Jill. He was 86.
The winery confirmed Thomas’ death on its Facebook page Wednesday.
During his time at the winery, Thomas created Slender, the world’s only sugar-free wine, which was presented to attendees of the 2009 Academy Awards. He was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, one of the state’s highest honors, as well as the key to the city from Indianapolis Mayors Richard Lugar and Steve Goldsmith.
