The organization says Betsy and Howard Chapman began giving to the organization soon after its inception in 1954, when it was known as the Johnny Appleseed School.
Easterseals Arc says the gift will be used to purchase more Murphy beds and mattresses to increase respite services and emergency lodging capacity, replace two rooftop HVAC units. The funding will also help the organization pay down the mortgage on its Easterseals RISE facility in Angola.
“This gift is truly amazing, and it warms my heart to honor Betsy Chapman for all that she did to ensure that families from 60 years ago to the present would have support for their children and loved ones,” said Donna Elbrecht, Easterseals Arc president and chief executive officer.
The Chapmans served on the organization’s board of directors at various periods, with Howard Chapman serving as board president in the early 1960s.
