The city of Goshen has been named the 2017 Indiana Chamber of Commerce Community of the Year. The Elkhart County city is being honored for what chamber President Kevin Brinegar calls a "tremendous" economic turnaround story. Goshen will be recognized November 7 during the Indiana Chamber’s 28th Annual Awards Dinner at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
Brinegar adds "Goshen has set itself apart with dynamic downtown offerings, creating new spaces and events for its residents to enjoy and embracing businesses both old and new." The Chamber is highlighting the city’s recent accomplishments, including:
- Transforming an 1870s-era factory building into the Hawks Arts and Enterprise Center, which includes low cost living and working space for artists and entrepreneurs
- Establishing the LaunchPad Goshen coworking space
- Creating a public-private partnership involving a new industrial business park
- Developing more than 30 miles of designated biking and walking trails
Mayor Jeremy Stutsman, who has declared 2017 "the Year of Goodness," and says "when I look at the progress this city has experienced over the years, I think about all the diverse businesses, organizations and individuals who came together to move our community forward. Here in Goshen, I am happy to see the wide range of businesses, from leading recreational vehicle manufacturing companies to the many individuals with entrepreneurial spirits who decide to open their local business here."
The November 7th event’s featured speaker will be two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Peyton Manning. In addition to Community of the Year, the chamber will also present awards for Business Leader of the Year, Government Leader of the Year and Indiana Vision 2025 Dynamic Leader of the Year.
