Chamber Exec on Election’s Key Business Issues
The Indiana Chamber’s vice president of political affairs and PAC characterizes Tuesday’s midterm election in Indiana as very important for Hoosier businesses. Jeff Brantley says major issues include workforce development, trade and healthcare, but not regulatory issues that had been important in the past. He says, whatever the outcome, he hopes the results will drive job growth.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman, Brantley discussed what’s at stake in what is turning out to be an active midterm election. "It doesn’t mean — however the outcome is — that business won’t continue, but for a lot of companies small, medium and large, there are questions about what will the regulatory environment look like after this election? What will healthcare look like? What will taxation look like?" he said. "If you’re a business owner, you’re trying to do everything you can right now to grow your enterprise and put your people to work and find people. That’s why this election is important."
He says the reasons for so much interest in early voting include increased excitement than previous non-presidential years and an easier early voting process that has also drawn the attention of political parties and political action committees. "Ultimately, let’s get back to business, let’s get back to growing this economy, putting more people to work and keeping Indiana and the country going (on) the right track," he said, "that’s what we hope."
