Ryan Hammer says QCD has a longstanding partnership with Starbucks and the Indy facility, which currently services 450 Starbucks locations, was a key target for the company.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business Reporter Merritt McLaughlin, Hammer said the acquisition builds on QCD’s existing plans for central Indiana.
“Also as part of that, we had another opportunity with a customer that we also have a strong partnership with to distribute in that market; we’ll be also servicing all the Chick-fil-A stores in the Indianapolis area through our distribution centers going forward. We’re in the process of building a new distribution center there in Greenwood, Indiana, which will be hopefully be done by early July and that’s when we plan to start our operations as it relates to Chick-fil-A.”
Hammer says the plan is to eventually move all operations to the new Greenwood facility, which will serve both Starbucks and Chick-fil-A. A time frame for such a consolidation effort was not provided.
The newly-acquired facility in Indianapolis employs some 85 workers. QCD says it is currently hiring for six new positions at the distribution center.
QCD acquired the Indianapolis center from Minnesota-based Dedicated Logistics Inc., as well as three others in Chicago, Boston and Washington D.C., along with a satellite depot in St. Louis. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
