A property valued at more than $3 million is now under the protection of Huntertown-based ACRES Land Trust. The 193 acres is mostly farmland in northeast Indiana’s Cedar Creek corridor. Earlier this year, the organization announced it crossed the 7,000-acre mark for properties it will permanently protect.

ACRES Land Trust says it will continue farming on the land for multiple years and use the income to support its mission. Eventually, plans call for the organization to plant native hardwoods and shrubs as part of a restoration effort. ACRES is now protecting some 1,000 acres through 32 properties within the 21 mile corridor. To secure the acreage, the organization received a $1 million matching award from the Indiana Bicentennial Nature Trust because of its landscape-based conservation plans.
