The Pharos-Tribune reports the land was donated by the Justice family earlier this week.
Cass County Commission President Jim Sailors says the parcel of land south of the Wabash River had been converted to a conversation area that had been managed by the Northern Indiana Citizens Helping Ecosystems Survive Land Trust. Sailors told the publication that Cass County government was made aware of the land by NICHES Land Trust’s wishes to turn over the land to a nonprofit or government body for public use.
Sailors tells the Pharos-Tribune that the county would like to expand France Park without any development. The 550 acre area was built in 1967 and houses opportunities for camping, swimming, and many other outdoor activities.
