The chamber says the Hamilton County city has "re-invented itself" from a small town to one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. The chamber will honor Carmel at its annual Awards Dinner in November.
The chamber says Carmel has established itself as a corporate hotspot, serving has home for the headquarters of more than 75 companies, including software and health care leaders. It says last year, nine new or expanding companies announced plans to add nearly 1,400 jobs. The city is also planning a new Midtown development with office, commercial and residential space.
The city has also become known for its more than 90 roundabouts, which the chamber says has increased safety and efficiency. The chamber also cites Carmel’s school and parks systems.
Carmel was named by CNN Money Magazine as the Best Place to Live in America in 2012 and third in 2014.
In a release from the chamber, Chief Executive Officer Kevin Brinegar said, "Carmel’s success comes down to three things: vision, partnerships and perseverance. City leaders have, time and again, avoided taking ‘the easy route.’ They’ve embraced challenges and taken risks that have transformed Carmel from a good community to an outstanding city. It’s highly regarded across the country and beyond as a city that ‘gets things done.’"
The chamber says the city’s focus on "the arts, fitness and family" also helped the city earn the award.
The 26th annual Indiana Chamber Awards Dinner is set for November 4 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.
