Cargo trailer maker details Bristol layoffs
Bristol-based Stealth Enterprises LLC has permanently laid off 53 employees at its northern Indiana facility. In a notice to the state dated Jan. 27, the cargo trailer manufacturer cited “unforeseen business circumstances” as the reason for the reduction.
The affected employees were initially placed on temporary layoff status in late October.
“The company had every intention of returning them to work in relative short order, but certainly in less than six months,” the company said in the notice. “Due to an unexpected precipitous downturn in the business of the company, however, the decision was made to convert the temporary layoffs to terminations.”
Stealth did not provide a specific cause for the downturn that led to the layoffs. An Inside INdiana Business request for more information was not immediately returned.
The company said the layoffs are effective as of Dec. 31, 2022.
However, Stealth said some of the impact employees have already been rehired and others may be considered for rehire in the future.
The affected workers are not represented by a union.
Stealth Enterprises, which does business as Stealth Trailers, makes a variety of cargo trailers, recreational vehicles and parts at its facility in Bristol.
