An annual gathering billed as one of the largest street rod events in the world begins today in Evansville. The city's convention and visitors bureau anticipates 8,000 Frog Follies Car Show attendees will inject nearly $2.4 million into the area economy. August 20, 2013

News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Beginning on Thursday of this week, the largest annual leisure travel group will arrive in Evansville in attractive, shiny cars to enjoy a weekend of camaraderie as they share their love for classic cars. As most have for the last 38 years, they will gather at the Vanderburgh 4-H Center where over 4,000 cars are expected at the Frog Follies Car Show sponsored by the E'ville Iron Street Rods Car Club. The Frog Follies Car Show begins Friday, August 23 through Sunday, August 25. Gates open at 8AM daily and admission is $5 per adult (children under 12 are free). Spectators are encouraged to attend to enjoy the cars, the people, the vendors and the activities that are scheduled throughout the weekend.

The Frog Follies attracts avid classic car owners and collectors from around the country and the world. Registrations from Australia, Canada, Alaska and all 48 lower states have been received, say promoters, to what they refer to as the “largest pre-'49 car event in the world.” The swap meet has over 600 spaces held by commercial street rod vendors. In addition, there are several craft booths for domestic interests.

A little known fact about this car show is the money that the organization gives to charities and scholarship programs. Since its inception in 1975, the Frog Follies has donated over $2 million to local efforts.

The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates the direct expenditure realized by Evansville and Vanderburgh County by this group of 8,000 people is calculated to be almost $2.4 million. They encourage restaurants, convenience stores and retail merchants to be aware of the large influx of visitors who will fill hotels and eateries this weekend. Locals are encouraged to welcome them with a wave and a toot of their horn as they pass them on the highways.
