Car Rental Business Hit by Pandemic, Layoffs Announced

Avis Budget Car Rental LLC (Nasdaq: CAR) has notified the state it will be extending the furlough period or implementing permanent layoffs for employees who work at three Indianapolis offices and one in Fort Wayne.
The move impacts 19 workers.
The company said the employees were placed on a partial or full furlough between April and June due to the pandemic.
The auto rental firm said at the time it hoped the displacements would last less than six months.
“Unfortunately, the financial hardship on the company caused by the pandemic has not
improved to the degree we had hoped by this time. Therefore, the company has made the difficult
decision to extend furloughs for some employees and implement layoffs for others at this work location,” said the company in the WARN notice.
Avis Budget said furloughs will continue until further notice and the layoffs will be permanent.
