Canadian Sportsbook Enters Indiana Market

Toronto-based Score Digital Sports Ventures Inc. is bringing its mobile sportsbook to Indiana. The company says the launch of theScore is part of a multi-state market access agreement with Penn National Gaming Inc. (Nasdaq: PENN), which owns Ameristar Casino in East Chicago and Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg.

John Levy, founder and chief executive officer of theScore, says Indiana is the first state in which the sportsbook has launched as part of the agreement with Penn National Gaming. The company also has a presence in Colorado and New Jersey.

Levy says the launch is a “huge testament to the best-in-class technology, multi-state infrastructure, and product development team supporting our ongoing expansion.”

theScore is the latest in a growing list of sportsbooks that have launched in Indiana since sports betting was legalized by the Indiana General Assembly in 2019.

The sports betting industry has seen a major decline this year due to major professional and collegiate sports being canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Indiana this month marked one year of sports betting, during which time $1.2 billion in wagers were placed, resulting in $9 million in state taxes.
