Cable Manufacturer Announces $18M Marion Investment

Kentucky-based General Cable Corp. (NYSE: BGC) is planning to invest more than $18 million into its Marion facility. The company, which also has locations in Indianapolis and Lebanon, says the Grant County growth includes 30 additional jobs.

Construction on a 30,000 square-foot addition is slated to begin in the spring and it could be complete in October. The Marion operation currently employs nearly 200 of General Cable’s 330 Hoosier workers.

General Cable Vice President Paul Furtado says "General Cable has been a part of the Grant County community for nearly 20 years and we are pleased that our Marion team is expanding and adding new manufacturing capabilities. This will result in a positive growth impact for both our company and the Grant County community where our employees live and work."

The company, considered one of the largest manufacturers of its kind in the world, says it plans to start adding line operators and administrative positions in May.

Mayor Jess Alumbaugh calls it a "great day" for the company and the city and says "we appreciated the opportunity to work closely with General Cable and the GCEGC to help a world-class manufacturing facility. General Cable has been a great partner with the city of Marion and we are pleased with their decision to invest here, not only for General Cable but for the future of Marion as well."

General Cable Industries Inc. has been offered up to $230,000 in conditional tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The Grant County Economic Growth Council will also receive up to $120,000 toward infrastructure work related to the expansion through Indiana’s Industrial Development Grant Fund.
