Subscribe NowMinnesota-based CliqStudios LLC says it plans to add up to 200 new jobs by 2020 at its recently-opened cabinet design studio in Indianapolis. In all, the retailer plans to invest more than $5 million into the downtown facility.
The location is the company’s first design studio outside its home state. CliqStudios is owned by Wayzata Home Products, which opened a manufacturing operation in the former Visteon plant in Connersville in 2014. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says the Fayette County facility, which was once the site of the failed Carbon Motors Corp., is still on pace to reach its target of more than 300 jobs by the end of 2018.
The Indianapolis office includes training, office and creative work space, which will help meet demand that the company says has led it to double in size annually in each of the last two years.
CliqStudios Vice President of Customer Experience Joy Schmelzer says the company chose Indianapolis because "we were attracted to the high quality of job applicants as well as the number of schools offering programs in interior design and kitchen design. We were impressed with how supportive the community has been of our initiative to bring jobs and look forward to continued partnerships to grow and develop our team in Indiana."
The IEDC says the jobs, which are mostly professional kitchen designers working remotely with clients nationwide, are expected to pay 40 percent higher wages than the state average. The state has offered CliqStudios conditional tax credits and training grants totaling up to $2 million.
