In her new role, Brooks will lead the development and implementation of the mayor’s initiative to promote equal opportunity within the city’s work force and operations.
Brooks previously served as manager for staff diversity recruiting at the University of Notre Dame. She began in her new role Monday.
"I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a stronger and more inclusive community," said Brooks. "The character of South Bend must be built upon a diverse city that unities people from different backgrounds and experiences that together create a more innovative and productive workforce."
Buttigieg launched his diversity and inclusion initiative earlier this year with an executive order. Brooks’ position was established to oversee the administration’s strategy to advance diversity in the city’s work force and contracts.
"Christina’s expertise will be vital to our city’s goal of becoming a model for diversity and inclusion," said Mayor Buttigieg. "Using her personal experience and the authority of this new position, she will guide our all-hands-on-deck effort to ensure that we live up to our values around inclusion, fulfilling our vision for a community where everyone can thrive."
