The university says 1,336 first-year students will descend on the Indianapolis campus, marking its largest class for the second time in three years.
The new class is an increase from the previous record of 1,255 incoming students two years ago. Butler says the class highlights a 10-year trend of application growth and represents a continued increase in out-of-state enrollment.
Butler says, since 2009, applications have increased 163 percent. Lori Greene, vice president for enrollment management at Butler, says the university’s enrollment goals have aligned with its strategic plan, Butler 2020.
"One of the strategic growth objectives is to increase full-time, undergraduate student enrollment," said Greene. "This is strategic growth complimented by an investment in the student experience. We see growth also reflected in new facilities, including two new state-of-the-art residence halls, and the new Lacy School of Business building, set to open in August 2019."
The university says the incoming class is also its most diverse, with multicultural students comprising 17 percent of the class. That number is three percent higher than last year.
Classes are set to begin August 22.
