The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has announced the appointment of Craig Burgess as state building commissioner. Burgess most recently served as plan review section chief for the IDHS Fire and Building Safety division.
In his new role, Burgess will be responsible for administering, enforcing and assisting with interpretation of codes and laws related to all structures. He will also oversee the compliance of plans for Class 1 buildings, such as schools, hospitals and daycares, that are submitted for state review.
"Craig Burgess has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will serve Indiana’s design, construction and overall business community," said IDHS Executive Director Bryan Langley. "Thoroughly and expeditiously reviewing public building plans is an important part of ensuring public safety while also furthering Indiana’s positive business climate."
Burgess is a registered architect licensed in Indiana and Illinois and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.
