Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report remediation of the contaminated property could take more than a year, though no timeline has been set.
The brownfield is part of the old General Motors Plant 7 property and is located near the future Italpollina facility, which broke ground last month. Last week, the Anderson Redevelopment Commission approved a $4 million deal with TerraTherm to complete the project. The work involves using electrodes to heat groundwater to the boiling point, then capturing and removing the contaminated condensation.
The are of concern was the previous location of degreasing operations at Delco Remy. The company once produced auto horns, light switches, turn signals and aluminum castings for other components.
