Brightwood Community Center has appointed Shonna Majors executive director. The neighborhood-focused nonprofit is devoted to serving residents through community-based programming concentrated on meeting the community’s essential needs.
Before joining the organization, Majors served as director of community violence reduction with the city of Indianapolis’s Office of Public of Health and Safety. She was appointed by Mayor Joe Hogsett in 2018, as part of the city’s first-ever community violence reduction team. Majors initiated grassroots violence reduction and prevention strategies to prevent at-risk community members from committing violence or becoming a victim. Her department also hosted community events to connect Indianapolis residents to area resources that assisted with housing, food, and other wraparound services.
Majors will be responsible for expanding and developing new programs aligned with the agency’s mission and goals, fostering new strategic partnerships and raising funds to support the organization.
