Brewpub Opening in Former Bloomington Grocery Store

Bloomington-based Switchyard Brewing Co. has announced plans to open its first brewpub at the site of the former Bloomingfoods grocery store. Switchyard expects the location in the city’s Elm Heights neighborhood to open this summer.
The 6,400 square-foot facility will include a second-level mezzanine for private parties and special events. Switchyard Founder Kurtis Cummings says, in addition to the craft beer and food options, the brewpub will also serve as a space for people to use as a coworking environment.
"Since early November, we have been busy behind the scenes meeting with our Realtor, neighborhood leaders and residents to explore this location and open a dialogue with our new neighbors," said Cummings. "The support we have received from all parties involved has been overwhelming and the initial reception nothing short of great."
Cummings tells Inside INdiana Business plans call for 40-50 jobs new jobs when the operation is open. The founders raised $45,000 last year during a Kickstarter campaign seeking seed money. Switchyard will be the fifth brewery in Bloomington.
