Indiana Gov. Mike Braun is continuing to make changes to the Indiana University board of trustees. The university said Tuesday that the governor has made three more appointments to the board, effective immediately.
The latest appointments to the board include Dr. David Hormuth, a surgeon and IU alumnus; Marilee Springer, an attorney and partner at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP; and student Isaac White.
“I look forward to collaborating with our new trustees, who will help us further strengthen the impact of Indiana’s flagship university,” IU President Pamela Whitten said in a news release. “With fresh perspectives come new opportunities, and I know they share my excitement for the endless ways IU strives to make a difference in the lives of our students and those living in our state.”
The new trustees will be sworn in during the board’s September meeting. Hormuth and Springer will serve until June 30, 2028, while White’s term will run through June 30, 2026.
“I welcome our new trustees and am excited to work together to build on the positive momentum of the IU 2030 strategic plan,” Board Chair Quinn Buckner said.
Earlier this year, language that was slipped into the state budget bill gave Braun the ability to appoint all nine members of the board. Previously, three members were elected by IU alumni.
Last month, Braun exercised that authority by removing three trustees and replacing them with new appointments, including conservative attorney Jim Bopp and former ESPN broadcaster Sage Steele.
The governor also made additional appointments to the following board and commissions:
Environmental Rules Board
John Graham (Monroe County), Term Expires on June 30, 2026
