The tournament-style fundraising competition brought in a total of more than $435,000 for 64 local nonprofits. This year’s winner, the Joseph Maley Foundation, says the event proved to be the largest single fundraiser in its history. Brackets For Good, which added three cities this year, has also announced the event will debut in Cincinnati in 2017.
Since its first Indy tournament, the organization says it has now topped $2 million raised for local charities. This year’s event brought in $436,514 through 3,931 donations.
The Joseph Maley Foundation raised more than $75,000 through the tournament, in addition to a $10,000 prize for winning. Director of Development Maggie Mestrich says the event has been "absolutely incredible" for the organization, and will have a huge impact on its programs. The foundation focuses its efforts on children with disabilities through programs including adaptive athletics, youth leadership and service learning.
Brackets For Good launched in 2012, and continues to grow. The organization recently added a Louisville tournament, and is growing to Ann Arbor, St. Louis and Minneapolis in 2016. Last year’s tournaments raised $571,383 in Indianapolis and $252,925 in Louisville.
The foundation will receive the $10,000 check Sunday during a ceremony at the Indiana Pacers game against the Brooklyn Nets.
Mestrich says the competitive format brings out more donors.
