Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie CEO to depart

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie has announced that CEO Jason Newman will step down at the end of the year. Newman said he is leaving because he believes “it is time for a new storyteller for our clubs.”
Newman began his role as CEO eight years ago. During that time, the organization said it has built strong relationships and trust with local foundations, donors and corporate funders, leaving it in a stronger position.
“Jason’s commitment to our youth, his collaborative spirit, and his vision for equity and inclusion have left a meaningful mark on this organization,” WaTasha Barnes Griffin, CEO of YWCA of Central Indiana and former Vice President of the Boys & Girls Clubs board of directors, said in a news release. “While we are saddened by his departure, we remain proud of what has been accomplished during his tenure and are confident that the foundation he helped lay will continue to support the Club’s growth and success.“
Newman said he plans to stay with the organization through December 31.
“I have done everything that I was brought in to do, and, immodestly, a little bit more,” he said in an email to Inside INdiana Business. “But there comes a time when new leadership is needed. On a personal basis, the needs of our kids interact with so many other needs in the community (healthcare, housing, employment for our kids, and families) that I hope to continue the kind of work I’m doing now, but expanding my focus to help our kids with those needed supports.”
The organization noted that a search for his successor is underway, and the board is focused ensuring a smooth transition.
“The Board of Directors is fully committed to finding a successor who not only brings strong leadership and vision but also embodies the values and spirit of our community,” Board President Lola Mauer said. “We are seeking a leader who will be a passionate advocate for youth, deepen community ties, grow support and partnerships, and continue to elevate the Clubs as a vital resource for children and families.”
Newman said he will remain in Muncie to support the new leadership when they come into office.
