News Release
STATEHOUSE – House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) is hosting his annual “Tweet Seats” during Governor Mike Pence's State of the State address on Tuesday. Six prominent twitterviduals from around the state will be in attendance, tweeting live from the Statehouse with updates of Gov. Pence's address.
The Tweet Seat participants will provide updates, thoughts and commentary during the State of the State to address their followers. House Republicans and the Tweet Seats will be using #INlegis, #INSOTS and #Indiana among other hashtags during the event.
“Twitter is one of the leading communication tools that many use to quickly access information. By continuing to host “Tweet Seats” my hope is that we can continue to engage more Hoosiers, and encourage them to be involved with their state government,” said Speaker Bosma.
The Tweet Seat Series is an extension of Speaker Bosma's previous transparency initiatives. In 2005, Speaker Bosma began live streaming House floor proceedings. In 2011, he made every House committee meeting available via the Internet. This session, a main focus of the 2015 House Republican Legislative Agenda is ethics reform and increased transparency.
“As state leaders, it is important to recognize the crucial role that social media plays in our society. Many Hoosiers use Twitter as a medium to acquire their news. It is important that we continue to reach out on various platforms to engage a broader group,” said Speaker Bosma.
This year's Tweet Seat participants will include:
-Mary Beth Schneider, former government and political reporter for The Indianapolis Star (@MaryBSchneider)
-Jennifer Hanson, Downtown Indy (@IndyDT)
-Dr. Byron Ernest, Head of Schools at Hoosier Academies (@ByronErnest)
-Miriam Weaver and Amy Jo Clark, Chicks on the Right (@ChicksonRight)
-Laura Berry, Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (@INCADV)
The participants will attend a brief “Twitter availability” with Speaker Bosma prior to the State of the State address.
