(NYSE: BWA) to build a technical center in the Hamilton County city. The planned $28 million operation will consolidate current operations in Anderson and Pendleton and construction is set to begin next month. More than 300 workers are expected to be employed at the center.
Plans call for research and development, testing, prototyping, engineering and design space. Mayor John Ditslear says “BorgWarner has a proven track record as a market leader in clean, energy-efficient propulsion systems for the automotive industry. We know this new technical center in Noblesville will allow them to build upon that success of innovation and continue to grow."
The project is set to be complete in 2018.
BorgWarner announced the acquisition of well-known Hoosier manufacturer Remy International Inc. in 2015, which was then headquartered in Pendleton. The deal was valued at $1.2 billion and BorgWarner anticipated the savings from the merger to total $15 million over two years and create a $15 billion global company by 2020.
